Manning Comes to Wyoming From the University of Colorado

Matt Whisenant is in his 12th year at the University of Wyoming in 2014 and in his fourth year as Deputy Director of Athletics. He is involved in overseeing every aspect of the Athletics Department, including direct oversight of the football, men's basketball, women's basketball, and wrestling programs, as well as the academics, compliance, sports medicine, and strength and conditioning areas. His responsibilities also include budgeting, fundraising and revenue enhancement, marketing, hiring practices, facility projects and liaison to various campus offices.

He started his career at UW as Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance in 2002, became an Assistant AD for Compliance and Olympic Sports in 2004, was promoted to Associate AD for Student-Athlete Services in 2005, was named Associate AD for Internal Operations in 2006, and became Senior Associate AD for Internal Operations in 2007 before accepting his current position in 2010. An innovator in the areas of compliance and student-athlete services, Whisenant has created and/or updated several UW Athletics Department publications, including the Policies & Procedures Notebook, the Coaches' Compliance Notebook, the Student-Athlete Handbook, the Booster Guide, the Annual Report, the Office of Academic Support Informational Packet, and the Visitor's Guide.

Whisenant earned his bachelor's degree in Physical Education from East Tennessee State University in 1996, and his master's in Sport Sciences from ETSU in 1999. He has completed all of his coursework toward his Ph.D. in Sport Management from The Ohio State University.

As a defensive end and outside linebacker at East Tennessee State, Whisenant earned All-Academic Southern Conference honors in 1991. He was also a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, the Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society, the Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society, and the Order of Omega Leadership Society. A native of Manassas, Va., Whisenant and his wife Kim have a son and a daughter.
