GoWyo.com will connect with several Cowboy basketball players throughout the summer in a special weekly series called “Connecting with the Cowboys.” This week we visit with freshman Hunter Thompson.
GoWyo.com – How are you adjusting to being a part of the Cowboys?
Thompson – So far it has been an easy transition. I have been slowed down by an injury this summer, but I’m all set to go now. I have been in practice and love how Coach Edwards’ and his staff work together to help make this team better.
GoWyo.com – How great is it to represent your home state?
Thompson – It has been amazing so far. I got goosebumps when they would introduce Jason McManamen and see how the fans embraced him. It really makes me want to work hard to represent my hometown and my home state. I want to represent the Brown and Gold the way it is supposed to be.
GoWyo.com –What made you stay home in Wyoming?
Thompson – I’m really a homebody. I like seeing familiar faces and territory. Plus being with this coaching staff was such an added bonus.
GoWyo.com – Has it been great learning from Alan Herndon and Hayden Dalton?
Thompson – It gives me a great example to modify my game after both of those players. They give me an in-depth example of the player I can work to become.
GoWyo.com –What type of player will Wyoming fans see from you?
Thompson – They will see a player that prides themselves on defense and hustling. I also have the ability to score as well. I want to be a maniac on the defensive end and grab rebounds and block/alter shots.
GoWyo.com – Is it tough having two Hunter’s on the team. You guys wonder which one coach is talking to?
Thompson – It has been tough. Teammates call me HT, but it is tough since they call Hayden “HD”. It can get confusing, but we will have to find a nickname.
GoWyo.com – What does Hunter Thompson do outside of basketball?
Thompson – I love to go and fly fish. I try to go as much as I can. My dad and uncle go with me, but if they can’t I like to get out there alone as well.
