Cowboys Begin Busy Fall Stretch

LARAMIE, Wyo. - The UW men's golf team begins a stretch that includes three tournaments in a nine-day window, first traveling across the Wyoming-Colorado border to Fort Collins, Colo., for the Ram Masters Invitational on Sept. 19-20 at the Fort Collins Country Club. The second stop is the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque, N.M., which will take place on Sept. 23-24. The Mark Simpson Colorado Invite in Boulder, Colo., will follow on Sept. 26-27.

Steady Improvement

At last weekend’s USAF Gene Miranda Invitational, the Cowboys reduced their team score in each of the three 18-hole rounds. Starting the tournament with a first-round score of 300 (+12), the squad then recorded a 296 (+8) in the Saturday afternoon round and capped the weekend with a very impressive 286 (-2) in Sunday’s final round. Wyoming put forth the second-best team score on Sunday, with tournament co-champion UNLV as the only team to best the Cowboys at 284 (-4).

McCullough’s Move

After beginning the USAF Gene Miranda Invite with a 78 (+6) last Saturday, junior Drew McCullough embarked on an incredible climb up the leaderboard. He dropped four strokes each in his next two rounds, closing out the weekend with a Sunday score of 70 (-2). After sitting tied for 50th following Saturday’s first round, McCullough ended the tournament tied for 19th place.

Hardworking Man

Junior Glenn Workman tied for the tournament lead in pars at the USAF Gene Miranda Invitational, recording 39 throughout the weekend.

Last Year’s Ram Masters Invitational

The Cowboys took fifth place on the heels of Kamrin Allen’s 217 (+7), which tied him for 14th place in the field of 88 golfers. Drew McCullough tied for 19th, recording just one more stroke than Allen. Both McCullough and Allen contributed a round of 69 (-1) during the tournament, while Quintin Pope ended the tournament with an even-par 70 to pull into a tie for 31st place.
