LARAMIE, Wyo. (Feb. 16, 2017) – The Wyoming women’s basketball team will close out the week against the Boise State Broncos on Saturday afternoon. The Cowgirls enter the contest with an 18-7 overall record and are 10-4 in league play after a tough 61-54 loss against the league-leading CSU Rams last night. Junior Liv Roberts led the way for the Cowgirls with 20 points and six rebounds. Fellow junior Natalie Baker finished with 11 points and six rebounds followed by senior Hailey Ligocki with ten points. Wyoming shot 22-49 (.449) from the field and 5-11 (.455) from the charity stripe. The two teams each recorded 28 boards, but UW committed 12 turnovers.
Roberts leads the team averaging 15.6 points and 7.8 rebounds plus 2.4 assists. She ranks fourth in the MW in scoring, sixth in field goal percentage and seventh in rebounding. In league games, she is third in scoring, fifth in rebounding and seventh in field goal percentage. Baker is chipping in 9.0 points and 5.2 rebounds while sophomore Marta Gomez is adding 8.8 points.
UW is shooting 591-1339 (.441) from the field and 185-491 (.377) from beyond the arc. The Cowgirls are also outscoring opponents 66.4-53.8 and out rebounding teams 36.2-31.5. Wyoming ranks first in field goal percentage as well as three-point field goal percentage, free throw percentage and assists.
Boise State enters the game with a 17-7 overall record and 7-6 in conference play. Last time out, they defeated New Mexico 64-62 in Boise. The Broncos are led by senior Brooke Pahukoa who is averaging a team-leading 13.3 points while adding 4.6 rebounds. Junior Shalen Shaw leads the team with 7.1 boards while adding 10.5 points. As a squad, Boise State is shooting 621-1556 (.399) from the field, averaging 69.9 points and 39.5 rebounds per game.
This will be the 19th meeting between the two schools. The series is tied at nine all. The last time the two teams met was January 28, 2017 with the Broncos earning 64-54 win in Boise. The Broncos are led by Gordy Presnell who is in his 12th season with the program.
In conjunction with the game, the University of Wyoming Athletics Department is hosting the 13th Annual Walk for Women. Along with the walk, a silent auction will be held with all proceeds from the event directly benefit the Play 4Kay Foundation. The walk will be held in the War Memorial Fieldhouse at 11:30 a.m., with registration set to begin at 10:30 a.m. The cost is $25 per person or $15 for UW students and youth (6th grade and under). Fans are encouraged to sign-up early as the cost will be $35 on the day of the walk. All participants will receive a water bottle and lunch along with a ticket to the Wyoming vs. Boise State women’s basketball game at 2 p.m. MT. Walk for Women t-shirts can also be purchased for an additional $10.

The WBCA’s Play 4Kay is an opportunity for a nation of coaches to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for research on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. The official charity is the Kay Yow Cancer Fund in partnership with The V Foundation and Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
The Stadium parking lot, east of War Memorial Stadium, will also be available for all Walk for Women participants this Saturday. People will be allowed to park in that lot all day for both the walk and the game.
