LARAMIE, Wyo. (Dec. 7, 2016) – The Wyoming Cowgirls will host Idaho on Friday in its final home non-conference game. The game is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. MT in the Arena-Auditorium. The Cowgirls are currently 6-2 overall and 6-0 at home this season after a 69-62 overtime victory against South Dakota on Sunday. Junior Liv Roberts finished with her first double-double of the season with 19 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. She was 5-10 from the field and 8-11 from the free throw line. Senior Hailey Ligocki tied her career-high with 13 points, six rebounds and five assists. Sophomore Marta Gomez added 12 points off the bench while sophomores Clara Tapia and Bailee Cotton each recorded nine points each. As a team, the Cowgirls shot 20-of-51 (.392) from the field and 23-of-32 (.719) from the free throw line.
Roberts, who won MW Player of the Week honors on Monday, leads the team averaging 13 points and 6.4 rebounds plus 1.9 assists. Sophomore Rachelle Tucker follows with eight points per contest while redshirt sophomore Bailee Cotton is adding five rebounds plus 6.1 points. UW is shooting 179-of-444 (.403) from the field and 57-of-177 (.322) from beyond the arc. The Cowgirls are also outscoring opponents 6391-50.1 and out rebounding teams 38.1-32.4.
The Vandals are currently 2-5 overall. Sophomore guard Mikayla Ferenz leads the way with 14 points and five rebounds per contest. Junior Geraldine McCorkell is adding 12.3 points and a team-high 5.3 boards followed by junior Brooke Reilly with nine points and 5.1 boards. As a squad, the Vandals are shooting 161-419 (.384) from the field and averaging 64.7 points per contest.
This will be the 12th meeting between the two schools. UW holds the slight 6-5 advantage. The last time the two teams met was December 5, 2015 with the Vandals taking a 61-57 victory. Idaho is coached by Jon Newlee who is in his ninth season with the program.
