Five singles players and two doubles teams earned victories on day two of the Jon Messick Invite on Saturday afternoon. The Cowgirls played matches against the Colorado State Rams and Northern Colorado Bears.
“I thought we played as one team today which was good to see,” head coach Dean Clower said. “The ladies are starting to play a little more structured. The best thing I see daily is our improvement in all of the small details we talk about in practice.”
In doubles action, the team of Tessa Van Der Ploeg and Elisa Koonik beat Riley Reeves and Alyssa Grijalva, 6-2 followed by Miranda Talbert and Ana Tkachenko earning a 6-1 win against Solene Crawley and Madison Porter. Celine Voss and Emily Kolbow defeated Dorottya Jonas and Imogen Clews, 6-3.
Solid play continued for Wyoming in singles action. Jonas won in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2, against Beth Coton while van Der Ploeg defeated Marissa Baca, 6-2, 6-1. Talbert needed three sets but defeated Courtney Schulte, 4-6, 7-6 (7), 6-3. Tkachenko dropped one game in her 6-0, 6-1 win against Lily-Ana Kreutzer followed by Koonik with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 victory against Ella Mora.
The tournament will close out tomorrow with doubles matches at 11 a.m. and singles play is set to start at 12 p.m.
