LARAMIE, Wyo. (Feb. 9, 2017) – The Wyoming tennis team will host its first home match of the spring season on Saturday. The Cowgirls will welcome the Montana State Bobcats beginning at 1 p.m. MT at the UW Indoor Tennis Complex.
“It’s great to be home and play in front of the best fans in the country,” head coach Dean Clower said. “The team has been looking forward to this all season. Montana State is a much improved team and are well coached. We will look to our leaders to get the team going early in doubles. We have grown tremendously since the start of the season and we feel the freshmen and the rest of the team are ready to compete.”
The Cowgirls enter the weekend with a 4-2 record overall after going 2-1 last weekend. Sophomore Tessa Van Der Ploeg, who recently was named MW Player of the Week, sports an 8-5 overall singles mark and is 5-0 this spring. Fellow sophomore Elisa Koonik is 9-5 overall and 4-2 in spring play. The duo also has a 10-4 overall doubles mark and are 3-0 in dual play. Senior Dorottya Jonas is 4-2 in her first six matches of the spring along with freshman Ana Tkachenko. Clower enters his sixth season at the helm and his current record stands at 61-46 overall.
Montana State will enter this weekend's contest with a 2-1 record overall. This will be the 12th meeting between the two teams. Wyoming leads the series 9-2. The last time the two teams met was March 14, 2012. Wyoming came away with a 7-0 victory in the match. Montana State is coached by Jon Reeves who is in his second season with the program.
