The University of Wyoming women’s golf team placed fifth at the Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate on Sunday afternoon. UW’s third-round 293 (+5) was second-best of the 11 teams during the final round and tied the third-lowest team round in program history.

"I would like to thank the Classic Club for another fantastic tournament," Cowgirl head coach Josey Stender said. "They are always top notch and treat us very well. We look forward to playing that course again in the future."

Wyoming had three golfers place among the top-25 and recorded a 54-hole total of 906 (+42). They were led by senior Mackenzie Barrie, who tied for 15th. Barrie finished with a 224 (+8) after she sandwiched a 78 (+5) in between a pair of 73 (+1) rounds in Southern California. It was Barrie’s first top-25 finish of her senior season.

"Although the conditions were very different from what we faced in our first two events," Stender added. "The girls adapted very well and came out ready to compete. As a team, we wanted to focus on improving every round and being consistently competitive this season and we have achieved that so far."

Freshman Erin Sargent notched the best finish of her young career. She tied for 20th in the 69-golfer field. Sargent saved her best round for last, as she posted a 73 (+1) on Sunday for a total of 227 (+11). It proved to be Sargent’s second-straight top-25 finish wearing the Brown and Gold.
