The Wyoming women’s golf team is tied for 14th after completing the second round of the Ron Moore Intercollegiate on Saturday. The Cowgirls recorded a 309 (+21) at the Highlands Ranch Golf Club, and now have a 36-hole team score of 606 (+30).
“I thought today we struggled a little bit with very tough hole locations,” Cowgirl head coach Josey Stender said. “At times we became indecisive and lost confidence on the greens. Erin (Sargent) did a better job adjusting to the course today and finished with a very solid round. Through all of our tournaments, we have had a great run this fall and we know we can have a competitive finish tomorrow.”
Freshman Erin Sargent paced the Cowgirls during the second round. She sits tied for 50th after firing a 75 (+3) today to put her 36-hole total at 152 (+8). Senior Mackenzie Barrie recorded a 76 (+4) for UW. She has a two-round total of 146 (+2), for 16th place. Both redshirt sophomore Sarah Hankins and junior Klara Castillo posted rounds of 77 (+5) on Saturday. Hankins is tied for 57th with a 153 (+9), while Castillo has 155 (+11) for a share of 76th place.
Junior Gabrielle Gibson followed her opening round 74 (+2) with an 81 (+9) on Saturday. She is also tied for 76th with a 36-hole total at 155 (+11). Rounding out the Cowgirls is sophomore Megan Knadler. Knadler shot an 82 (+10) to bring her total to 167 (+23).
Pepperdine is once again the team leader of the 18 teams with a combined score of 570 (-6). Host Denver is second with a 36-hole total of 574 (-2). Of the 102 total golfers competing, Hira Naveed of Pepperdine and Sophie Newlove of Denver are tied for the individual lead. They each have a 140 (E) with one round remaining.
