Nearly 50 UW student-athletes were honored Thursday for their dedication to academics, as the Mountain West Conference announced its Academic All-Conference teams for fall sports.

UW had 47 student-athletes from five fall sports represented on the teams, surpassing last year's total of 40. It represents the greatest number of honorees since the 2005 Academic All-Conference team, which also had 47 UW recipients.

Leading the way for Wyoming were the Cowgirl volleyball and soccer teams, with 12 honorees each. UW football had 11 recipients, followed by six each from Cowboy and Cowgirl cross country.

The average GPA of the UW honorees was 3.53. Four student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA.

The MW boasted a league-record 409 student-athletes on the fall 2012 Academic All-Mountain West team. Fall sports include men's and women's cross country, football, women's soccer and women's volleyball. The mark surpasses the previous conference record of 396 fall semester honorees, set during the 2010-11 academic year.

The criteria for selection to the team requires that a student-athlete must have completed at least one full semester at their university, must have achieved a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.00 or higher and must have been a starter or significant contributor to their team.
