The hard work in the classroom paid off for numerous University of Wyoming student-athletes after the Mountain West Conference announced Thursday its Academic All-Conference teams for the five fall sports sponsored by the MWC. UW had 40 student-athletes receive the honor.

The Wyoming volleyball team had 11 honorees, followed by UW football with nine. Men's cross country had eight recipients of the honor, women's soccer had seven and women's cross country had five.

The class breakdown of the 40 student-athletes honored is as follows: 13 sophomores, 11 seniors, 10 juniors and six freshmen. The average GPA for the Wyoming honorees was 3.52.

The criteria for selection to the team requires that a student-athlete must have completed at least one full semester at their university, must have achieved a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.00 or higher and must have been a starter or significant contributor to their team.
