On February 28, 2005, Head Football Coach Joe Glenn, along with Athletic Director Gary Barta, will launch the 2005 Cowboy Joe Club "Colorado Fund Drive" with a reception at "Brooklyn's" in Denver (right across the street from the Pepsi Center) from 6-8 p.m. This will be a great opportunity to hear from both Coach Glenn on the great victory over UCLA in the Las Vegas Bowl and from Barta on current happenings within the athletic department.
The purpose of the "Colorado Fund Drive" is to generate additional private support for UW student-athletes. Private support is absolutely essential to the success of our athletic programs. Currently, UW ranks last in the Mountain West Conference in terms of overall athletic budget. This is certainly something that needs to be rectified over the course of the next few years in order to provide UW student-athletes with the best opportunity for success.
With over 13,000 UW alumni, Colorado obviously plays a key role both in terms of the UW donor and fan base. Last year there were just over 250 Cowboy Joe Club members in Colorado who donated approximately $130,000. The Cowboy Joe Club is proud of these numbers and grateful to everyone who contributed; however, much work remains to be done.
The fund drive will last through the Mountain West Conference basketball tournament which takes place at the Pepsi Center in Denver March 9-12. The goal of the drive is to double the number of Cowboy Joe Club members in Colorado to at least 500. With the help of our Colorado donors, fans, alumni and friends, this goal is well within reach.
Please help spread the word of both the February 28th reception and the fund drive. Anyone is welcome to attend the reception. The cost of the reception is $10 per person which includes hors d'oeuvres, draft beer and soft drinks.
