Sports Festivals to be Held Next Week Across the State of Wyoming

May 7, 2010

The Wyoming Sports Festival series will visit eight cities in five days from Monday, May 10, through, Friday, May 14th. Cheyenne (May 10), Wheatland and Torrington (May 11), Douglas and Lusk (May 12), Newcastle and Wright (May 13) and Gillette (May 14) are included in the tour.

The University of Wyoming's Sports Festivals are a series of statewide nonprofit outreach events hosted by the UW Athletics Department. This is the 14th year that UW has hosted the Sports Festivals. Each Sports Festival features coaches and athletes from the football, men's basketball, women's basketball and volleyball teams, and this year wrestling has been added to the group. These teams will conduct mini-sport camps for participating children. Over the past few years, thousands of Wyoming children have participated in the Sports Festivals. Participating children receive a t-shirt, a positive lifestyle message, two hours of hands-on experience from two of the four sports and the chance to get autographs from all of the coaches and athletes.

The title sponsor is the Cowboy Joe Club and a special thanks goes out to our statewide sponsors: BlueCross BlueShield of Wyoming, CollegeInvest, Gem City Bone & Joint, Pinnacle Bank, Trihydro Corporation, WYDOT, Pepsi and the Brown & Gold Outlet.

In conjunction with the Sports Festivals, the Cowboy Joe Club will host two "Meet and Greet" events during the week. On Tuesday May 11, the public is invited to join UW coaches and student-athletes from Cowboy football, basketball and wrestling and Cowgirl basketball and volleyball for a reception at the Douglas Community Golf Club beginning at 6 p.m. It will include a hamburger buffet, cash bar and a speaking program. The cost is $9 per person. The next event will take place on Thursday, May 13, at the Boss Lodge Restaurant and Business Center beginning at 6 p.m. in Gillette. First National Bank of Gillette and Boss Lodge Restaurant are sponsoring the reception, which includes heavy appetizers, cash bar and a speaking program. For more information, please call the Cowboy Joe Club at (307) 766-6242.
