UW Intercollegiate Athletics Announces Administrative Changes

University of Wyoming Athletics Director Tom Burman announced Tuesday four promotions within the UW Athletics Department effective July 1.

Kevin McKinney has been promoted to Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs, Matt Whisenant to Senior Associate Athletics Director for Internal Affairs, Tim Harkins to Associate Athletics Director for Media Relations and Phil Wille to Director of Compliance.

McKinney, who is in his 36th year in the UW Athletics Department, will coordinate the external operations which includes the Cowboy Joe Club, Wyoming Sports Properties, and the areas of marketing/promotions, media relations and ticketing.

Whisenant, in his sixth year at Wyoming, will oversee student-athlete services, compliance, the equipment and athletic-training staffs and will supervise specific sports.

Harkins, who is beginning his 17th year at UW, will supervise media relations, public relations and broadcasting, and will serve as the primary liaison to media covering University of Wyoming Athletics.

Wille, now in his second year at Wyoming, will supervise all UW Athletics Department compliance issues related to NCAA and Mountain West Conference rules and regulations.

"It is exciting to know that we can make these promotions internally because of the quality people we currently have within the department," said Burman. "Each of these individuals has a great passion for our athletics department, this university and the state of Wyoming. They will enhance our entire athletics program."

McKinney will continue to team with the "Voice of the Cowboys", Dave Walsh, on Wyoming football and men's basketball broadcasts.
