LARAMIE, Wyo. -
As announced earlier this week by the Mountain West Conference office, the University of Wyoming has had 54 student-athletes honored as 2005-06 MWC Scholar Athletes.
Wyoming's 54 individual honorees break down as follows by sport: Women's Track and Field (12), Women's Swimming and Diving (9), Volleyball (6), Soccer (5), Women's Basketball (5), Football (4), Men's Swimming and Diving (3), Men's Track and Field (3), Women's Golf (3), Women's Tennis (2), Men's Golf (1) and Wrestling (1).
A total of 535 MWC student-athletes were awarded the distinction of MWC Scholar Athlete for 2005-06. To be eligible for selection student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition for their athletic team.
BYU led the way with 135 student-athletes honored, followed by New Mexico (80), Utah (54) and Wyoming (54), TCU (53), Air Force (52), Colorado State (44), UNLV (35) and San Diego State (28).
