Wyoming Athletics Sets Another Fundraising Record

July 1, 2010

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

For the fourth straight year, Wyoming Athletics has set a fundraising record. For fiscal year 2010, which ended June 30, Wyoming Athletics and the Cowboy Joe Club added $3.4 million in total revenue, breaking the $3 million mark for the first time and meeting the goal of $3.3 million set in 2007 by then Cowboy Joe Club Board President Gary Crum. Adding capital and other gifts donated in 2010 to the $3.4 million in Cowboy Joe Club annual revenue, a total of $8,439,790 was given to Wyoming Athletics for the 2010 fiscal year.

Over the previous three fiscal years, the Cowboy Joe Club, which is celebrating its 40th Anniversary in 2010, has seen a 47% spike in annual support. Fiscal year 2010 giving was especially good to Wyoming Athletics as it also saw the conclusion of the $38 million Wyoming Athletics Facility Campaign, as well as a multi-million dollar estate gift.

"I want to congratulate the Cowboy Joe Club Board of Directors, the Cowboy Joe Club staff and our many volunteers and members for reaching this goal, and I want to thank them all for their efforts," said UW Athletics Director Tom Burman. "When the $3.3 million goal was set, it seemed like a significant reach for us at the time, but our Cowboy Joe Club board, staff and volunteers have proven that hard work combined with a passion for the development process and their love for Wyoming Athletics can accomplish great things."

Endowment giving, planned giving and capital improvement donations are also coming in steadily, even through tougher economic times.

"Our fundraising success is a tribute to the countless hours our staff and volunteers put in on a daily basis," Associate Athletics Director for Development Josh Rebholz said. "Wyoming fans understand what it takes to compete in the Mountain West Conference, and whether it's a $100 annual gift or a $2 million capital campaign gift, they are willing to help. We thank all of our supporters, we simply couldn't succeed at this level without them."

With the achievement of the $3.3 million goal set back in 2007, the Cowboy Joe Club now looks to meet a new goal of gaining 5,000 members by 2015. The Cowboy Joe Club currently has 4,016 members. The 5,000-member goal was established by outgoing CJC Board President Doug Campbell, and will be the focus beginning in 2011.

Capital gifts are also being requested to assist in upgrade projects for UW Athletics. These projects currently include: the painting of gameday gold on Jonah Field; painting the exterior of the War Memorial Stadium press box brown to match the exterior of the new Wildcatter Stadium Club & Suites; improved signage around War Memorial Stadium, the Arena-Auditorium and the Rochelle Athletics Center; as well as an upgraded weight room for Cowboy and Cowgirl basketball teams.
