LARAMIE, Wyo. - The University of Wyoming Athletics teams will be taking several events to venues around the state of Wyoming and the region in 2013-14 in an effort to reach out to Wyoming fans. Wyoming's football, men's basketball, women's basketball, women's tennis, track and field and wrestling teams will all hold either a practice or competition at sites around the state this coming year.
"I compliment our coaching staffs," said UW Director of Athletics Tom Burman. "We made this a priority a few years ago to find ways to take our programs out in the state and provide great outreach opportunities for our passionate fanbase. It is not as simple as you might think to schedule opponents for these types of events, but our coaches have worked hard to accomplish this. I hope our fans will enjoy these events."
The first-event will take place on Saturday, Aug. 24 when the Wyoming Football team will conduct its "Cowboys in the Capital" event in Cheyenne, Wyo., at Cheyenne Central High School. The football team will be conducting a two-hour practice from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Cheyenne, with other activities for fans planned around that event. More details of the day's events will be released in the near future.
On Friday, Nov. 8, the Cowgirl Basketball team will host Montana State-Northern in a game to be played in Sheridan, Wyo.
Also on Nov. 8, Cowgirl Tennis will hold an exhibition match at the Frontier Park Tennis Club in Cheyenne, Wyo. The opponent for that event has not yet been finalized.
Cowboy Basketball will play the University of South Dakota in Rapid City, S.D., on Saturday, Dec. 7.
Two UW teams will be in Gillette, Wyo., on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014. The Wyoming Track and Field team will be hosting an indoor meet versus rival Colorado State that day, while the Cowboy Wrestling team will host South Dakota State in a dual match.
The Cowboy and Cowgirl track and field teams will return to Gillette on Friday, Jan. 31 to host an indoor meet against Montana State.
Details on game times and specific locations for these events will be made available as they are finalized.
In addition to the outreach events this coming year, UW Athletics will once again host its Fan Fest for fans of all ages prior to the Saturday, Sept. 14 home football game versus Northern Colorado.
