LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming Athletics Department held their annual Fall Sports Media Day on Friday, as well as the groundbreaking ceremony for the indoor practice facility.
Below is a photo gallery of the day's events.
UW coaches and players took photos and gave interviews to media members, while various individuals took turns at the podium to discuss the upcoming fall seasons, the indoor practice facility project and to thank supporters.
Remarks from University of Wyoming President Tom Buchanan on the groundbreaking ceremony:
"Those of us who have lived in Wyoming for more than a few years like to talk about how tough we are. Many of us have sat in the bleachers of War Memorial Stadium cheering on the Cowboys on days when more rational people would have been indoors. I'm particularly fond of recalling a game many years ago against San Diego State in the middle of a road closing blizzard. I spent the better part of the game in stage three hypothermia.
"Still it's one thing to watch an occasional football or soccer game played in the cold and snow. It's quite another to practice in the Wyoming elements day after day, week after week, month after month. Today, we break ground of a facility that will be the envy of the Mountain West Conference.
"I know that Joe Glenn and Anne Moore have been looking forward to this day since we announced our goal to build an indoor practice facility. They haven't stopped smiling since I first saw them today. When it's finished, this facility will be a perfect complement to the Rochelle Athletics Center, our renovated War Memorial Stadium, and the new Louis S. Madrid Athletics Complex, containing our soccer stadium and track. All of these reflect UW's ongoing commitment to Wyoming athletics, our fans, and our student-athletes.
"We are fortunate at the University of Wyoming. Thanks to a booming economy, the State of Wyoming is able - and eager - to invest resources in education.
"UW is a beneficiary of the state's wealth and of the common goal we share - to make the University of Wyoming the best it can be: in academics, in student support, in our facilities, and, as evidenced today, in intercollegiate athletics. As we break ground for the Indoor Practice Facility, I hope we will all rededicate ourselves to the excellence of our university, and through it, the future of our state. And as always, Go Pokes!"
