LARAMIE, Wyo. -
In an effort to provide fans more in-depth coverage of Cowboy and Cowgirl sports, University of Wyoming Athletics Director Gary Barta has announced today the enhancement of audio and video capabilities on the official UW Athletics website, wyomingathletics.com. For the 2004-05 school year, UW online audio broadcasts will offer improved streaming technology, and Wyoming will be adding video interviews and highlights for the first time. Both the audio and video services will be provided through an exclusive two-year contract with Yahoo Broadcast.
"Every day our staff is coming up with new ideas to benefit Wyoming fans," said Barta. "We have a long way to go, but I know we're making progress. With this effort, fans across Wyoming, the country and anywhere in the world can stay in touch with the Pokes like never before."
By logging on to wyomingathletics.com, fans can subscribe to live audio broadcasts of games and coaches' shows, video interviews with UW coaches and players, game highlights, event previews, press conferences and related athletics department events.
In past years, UW provided free online audio only, but was unable to generate additional audio and video content that fans requested. To enhance online offerings to Wyoming supporters, a subscription service was necessary to recover a portion of the costs.
The Yahoo Sports audio offerings are available for both broadband and dial-up users, and feature radio broadcasts of UW football, men's basketball and women's basketball contests. As a result, Wyoming alumni that live thousands of miles from their alma mater will be able to follow every game as if they were back on campus and listening to their hometown announcers.
There are two options with this subscription service: the School Pass, only $4.95 a month and the College Pass, only $9.95 a month. The School Pass offers Wyoming live audio broadcasts (football, men's and women's basketball) and video features of all UW sports, as well as coaches' shows and press conferences. The College Pass offers live audio broadcasts and video features for nearly 50 fee-based schools, including Wyoming and schools from every major Division I-A conference. Both options currently have a one-week free trial.
In addition to Wyoming, Mountain West Conference schools Colorado State, New Mexico, UNLV and Utah are among nearly 50 institutions featured in Yahoo Sports' College Pack. Currently, six of eight MWC schools have switched from free to subscription online broadcasts.
