27th Annual Cowboy Joe Club Auction Nets More Than $315,000

Sept. 19, 2013

LARAMIE, Wyo. - The Cowboy Joe Club, the University of Wyoming Athletics' main fundraising organization, announced Thursday that the 27th Annual Cowboy Joe Club Auction which took place last Friday raised more than $315,000. The money raised will go toward funding University Wyoming student-athlete scholarships and resources.

"What a night," said Mark Depew, current Cowboy Joe Club President. "Nearly 600 generous people raised more than $300,000 for Wyoming Athletics. The donors of the auction items were rewarded for their generosity as many items were bought for significantly more than their value. Cowboy and Cowgirl fans are amazing."

Despite weather concerns in the surrounding area, a sold-out crowd of close to 600 Wyoming supporters from around the region attended the auction held at Little America Hotel in Cheyenne.

The auction, Cowboy Joe Club's largest annual fundraising event, was run by Shawn Madden of Madden Brothers Auction Company in Torrington, Wyo. Infinity Power and Controls was the title sponsor of the event and Anadarko Petroleum Corporation and ISC Corporation were contributing sponsors. ISC provided 30 iPads to assist with electronic bidding, which was a new feature at this year's event.

"To generate the amount of revenue we do from a single event like this is very impressive," Senior Associate Athletic Director Randy Welniak said. "We are so fortunate to have this type of support for the Cowboy Joe Club and University of Wyoming Athletics."

The auction was highlighted by an appearance from UW's Western Thunder Marching Band and support from the University's wrestling and cheerleading teams, who volunteered and helped with the event.

The next major event for the Cowboy Joe Club is its Annual Online Auction, which takes place the entire month of February 2014 at www.GoWyo.com. People who would like to donate an item to either the online auction in February or to next year's live auction may do so by calling the Cowboy Joe Club at 307-766-6242.
