The Cowboy Joe Club, the University of Wyoming Athletics' main fundraising arm, announced Wednesday that for the first time in its history the annual Cowboy Joe Club auction eclipsed the $300,000 mark in net profit. The 24th Annual Cowboy Joe Club Auction, presented by IGC Management, netted an astonishing all-time record $300,808 to be used towards student-athlete scholarships and resources. This surpasses last year's net total by more than $75,000.
A sold-out crowd of 650 Wyoming fans from across the region attended this year's auction, held Friday, Sept. 17 at the Little America Hotel in Cheyenne, Wyo. Popular items included: a package to attend the 2011 Masters in Augusta, Ga.; a luxury vacation to one of twelve destinations; 2011 Nebraska at Wyoming sideline passes; Los Angeles Lakers tickets in owner and UW alum Dr. Jerry Buss' suite; a 2011 Polaris Ranger utility vehicle; a 10-day Panama Canal cruise; a New York Yankees package; Phoenix Open tickets with unlimited Arizona golf; a Boston Red Sox package; a one-hour hitting and pitching clinic with Major League Baseball players Mark Teahen and Kyle Davies; a Chicago White Sox vs. Chicago Cubs package; a vacation at the Four Seasons Resort in Scottsdale, Ariz.; a pre-game helicopter ride; and the world famous Cast and Blast package at Crazy Rainbow in Casper, Wyo.
This year's auction, chaired by Mark Depew of Cheyenne, was sponsored by IGC Management of Cheyenne, Orrison Distributing of Cheyenne, Town & Country Liquors of Cheyenne, Infinity Power & Controls of Rock Springs and Laramie GM Auto Center of Laramie.
The 25th Annual Cowboy Joe Club auction is tentatively scheduled for the night before the Nebraska at Wyoming football game, Sept. 23, 2010, in Cheyenne. The next major special event for the Cowboy Joe Club is the Annual Online Auction, to be held the entire month of February 2011 at www.wyomingathletics.com.
