Advisory Committee Announced for Athletics Director Search

July 2, 2003

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The University of Wyoming today announced the members of a 10-person advisory committee to assist President Philip L. Dubois and the university's professional search firm, Eastman & Beaudine, in the selection of UW's next director of intercollegiate athletics.

"In June, I invited the university community, including the Cowboy Joe Club, to suggest the names of individuals who would be good members of an advisory committee as we begin to identify the very best candidates available for the position of athletics director," says Dubois. "Many of the individuals we are announcing today were suggested by people who care deeply about UW and its athletics program. Others, I selected for their wealth of experience in intercollegiate athletics. I am convinced that, together, these 10 will provide excellent advice throughout the selection process.

"However, as I noted when we began this process, the final decision on who I recommend to the UW Board of Trustees as the next director of UW intercollegiate athletics will be mine," continues Dubois. "While this will be a collaborative process, the buck stops with me.

"Eager UW fans and members of the Wyoming media have asked, 'How long will the selection process take,'" concludes Dubois. "While I would like to have someone on board as soon as possible, I've noted that the process could take as long as by December. The entire process is designed to ensure that we hire the right person - right for our athletics program, right for our university, right for our state. We have a great staff in place right now, who can keep us moving in the right direction on an interim basis. There is no reason to rush the process."
