LARAMIE, Wyo. -
University of Wyoming Athletics Director Lee Moon announced Wednesday that Eric Brey (rhymes with pie) has been named UW's Associate Athletics Director for Academic Services.
Brey's appointment is subject to University Trustee approval. He replaces Dr. Pete Toye who resigned the position to pursue other interests. In his new position, Brey will have responsibility and oversight of the Academic Support Unit including supervision of advisory staff and administrative staff. He will monitor the academic performance of student-athletes, as well as student-athlete eligibility.
"There is no question about the importance of this position," Moon said, "and we are very satisfied that we have hired an individual who will carry on Pete's outstanding work. Eric is an extremely bright individual who relates very well to student-athletes and coaches alike. I think he is a great fit for Wyoming. We are fortunate that circumstances have allowed us to bring him here."
Brey, 31, comes to Wyoming from the University of Colorado, where he was an academic coordinator for the past two years. He had joined the Colorado staff in September, 2000, with football and tennis as his primary responsibilities.
He came to CU from Southwest Missouri State University, where he spent four years as the assistant director of the achievement center for intercollegiate athletics.
Brey owns two degrees from the University of Kansas, as he earned his bachelor's in exercise science in 1994 and his master's in sports administration in 1996.
Born July 7, 1971 in Winchester, Kan., he graduated from Jefferson County North High (in Winchester) in 1989, where he lettered in football. He is married to the former Jana Leis. His hobbies include golf, skiing, scuba diving and flying airplanes. He was an extra in the movie Kansas.
