UW Cheerleaders Superior in Competition

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

Wyoming's cheerleaders recently competedwith nine other Division I schools at a Universal Cheer Association camp andreceived a superior trophy as one of the top all-around teams. The teamalso received third place in the cheer division of the competition.

This year, nine students return from last years' squads. The team has twosquads, a co-ed squad with seven women and six men, and an all-female squadof nine. The cheerleaders will be working more closely with Wildfire thisyear, the University's dance team. The two groups would like to do moredrill-team work together at Cowboy and Cowgirl athletic events.

"Our main goal this year is to get more crowd involvement," cheerleadingcoach Whitney Whitworth said.

The team plans to appear at more athletic events this season. Thecheerleaders will perform at soccer and volleyball matches this year, alongwith the usual football games and men's and women's basketball.
