LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Heather Jackelen, a freshmancheerleader at the University of Wyoming and a native of Rock Springs, Wyo.,won the 2000 Miss Wyoming Pageant held at the Cheyenne Civic Center onSaturday, Oct. 7. Jackelen will represent the state of Wyoming in the MissUSA Pageant to be held in early February in Gary, Ind.
"It is extremely exciting to win the Miss Wyoming title," saidJackelen. "I really wanted this. I worked extremely hard to achieve mygoal and it paid off.
"I want to thank all of my family for being so supportive, and allthe other girls who competed. Everyone in the pageant was really nice, andthey all wished me good luck in the national pageant. It was a greatexperience."
The pageant field included eight young women from across the stateof Wyoming. A criminal justice major, Jackelen is the daughter of Susan andJoel Schneider and Jeff Jackelen.
"We are so happy for Heather," said Wyoming cheerleading coachMichelle Adams. "Everyone on the squad knows how hard Heather worked towardthis goal, and we know she will represent the University and the stateextremely well at the national level."
Jackelen will travel to Gary, Ind., for approximately three weeks ofpreparation immediately prior to the pageant in February.
