UW Athletic Teams Vote to Wear Symbol

October 13, 1998

In memory of Matthew Shepard and in support of his family, University of Wyoming Athletics teams currently in competition will wear a yellow and green symbol during each event this fall. Director of Athletics Lee Moon stated that the athletic department supports this expression of the ideals of tolerance and diversity.

Moon said the Cowgirl and Cowboy teams individually voted to show their support and concern by wearing a mark specific to their uniforms.

The football team, for example, will wear the yellow mark with the green circle on its head gear. The women's programs will wear a yellow ribbon with the green circle in their hair--yellow signifying non-violence, and green symbolizing peace.
