University of Wyoming Athletics had a school record 60 student-athletes earn Academic All-Mountain West Conference honors for the 2015 Fall Semester as announced by the Mountain West Conference on Thursday. That is the most UW student-athletes to earn Academic All-MW recognition in a fall semester since UW began competition as a founding member of the Mountain West in 1999. Wyoming's previous high was 50 student-athletes named to the team in the Fall of 2014 and the Fall of 2013.

Wyoming's 60 members on this year's team tied UW for third highest among all Mountain West institutions. Utah State placed the most individuals on the team with 63, followed by Boise State with 61 and Wyoming and New Mexico tied with 60.

"We are extremely proud of the young men and women in our program for their academic accomplishments," said UW Athletics Director Tom Burman. "These student-athletes are pursuing a wide range of challenging academic majors and are achieving at a high level. We want to congratulate each of them for earning the honor of being named Academic All-Mountain West."

UW's honorees included 19 individuals from football, 14 from women's soccer, 12 from women's cross country, nine for volleyball and six for men's cross country.

Each of Wyoming's five fall sport teams ranked in the Top 4 institutions in their respective sports for most representatives on the Academic All-Mountain West team. The Cowgirl cross country team ranked No. 1 among all MW women's cross country programs, with 12 individuals making the team. Cowgirl soccer and volleyball tied for third in their sports, with 14 and nine individual honorees, respectively. Cowboy football and cross country tied for fourth in their sports, with 19 and six student-athletes, respectively. There were 35 Cowgirls named to this year's team and 25 Cowboys.

To earn Academic All-Mountain West honors a student-athlete must have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 or better, be a starter or significant contributor on their team and must have completed at least one academic term at their member institution.

In addition to the 11 member schools who are full members of the Mountain West, affiliate members Hawai'i (in football) and Colorado College (in women's soccer) all had student-athletes named to this year's team.

The five Mountain West Conference sponsored sports that make up the Fall Academic All-Mountain West Team are: men's cross country, women's cross country, football, women's soccer and women's volleyball. The Mountain West also names an Academic All-Conference Team for winter and spring sports that is released later in the year. For the full list of Wyoming's honorees click on the link above.
