The University of Wyoming swimming and diving teams continued their success in the classroom earning Team Scholar All-America honors by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America announced Thursday. The Cowboys earned the award with a team grade-point average of 3.20. The Cowgirls earned a team GPA of 3.11 during the spring semester.
The honor, supported by Nike Swim, is given out during the fall and spring semesters.
“We are very proud of the team accomplishments both in and out of the pool,” UW head coach Tom Johnson said. “I’m very pleased that the past two seasons our team has shown improvement in the classroom.”
The Cowgirls placed a program-best 16 student-athletes on the Mountain West All-Academic team. Nine of those athletes also earned MW Scholar-Athlete honors. The Cowboys had 11 members earn a spot on the Academic All-Western Athletic Conference team.
The Spring Team Scholar All-America award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher in the semester/quarter coinciding with the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA/CCCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
