LARAMIE, Wyo. - A total of 86 University of Wyoming student-athletes were named to the spring 2015 Academic All-Mountain West team when the conference announced the honors on Thursday. The all-time high mark surpasses the 83 Cowboys and Cowgirls that were named to the spring 2010 team. Wyoming tied its all-time high for fall honorees with 50 in the fall of 2014.
Among those recognized this spring for the Brown and Gold were 27 women's swimming and diving participants, followed by women's track and field with 19. Men's track and field had 12 honorees, while women's basketball added eight. Women's golf had seven members, as six men's golfers made this year's list. Women's tennis collected five while men's basketball added two participants.
The UW contingent was comprised of 34 freshmen, 18 seniors, 17 juniors and 17 sophomores.
To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at their member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.
A league-record 959 student-athletes were named to the spring 2015 Academic All-Mountain West team. Spring sports include baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, softball, women's swimming and diving, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field. The mark surpasses the previous conference record of 909 spring semester honorees, set during the 2013-14 academic year.
