Krista Jones

Do you ever get bored while swimming a distance free event?
"Yes, especially when I don't have any competition. But that's why I always get a really good song stuck in my head before my race...... just in case."

What advice would you give to novice swimmers about how to complete a fast flip-turn?
"The faster you go into the wall and the tighter you can tuck into a ball, the faster you will leave the wall."

Which Cowgirl swimmer could swim the furthest underwater before coming up to breathe? Cowboy?
"I actually don't know, but I would guess swimmers in the sprinter group because they have to hold their breathe more in their races."

How will you sum up your four years as a Cowgirl swimmer? How about the Jones' family legacy?
"It's been an amazing experience where I've learned how to push my body and mind to the limit to become the best athlete I could be. I'll never forget my amazing teammates that I've got to swim with over the past four years. When I was young I never thought I would be a collegiate athlete with my brother and sister, but having us all together has kept us a close family and has been great to support each other."

What is the largest amount of coffee you have ever seen Coach Johnson (TJ) drink in one day?
"Two Nalgene bottles full of coffee with no sugar or milk."

Have you ever turned your hair green because of too much chlorine?
"Not quite 'green,' but the chlorine has definitely changed my hair color a few times."

Can you hear what the crowd/coaches/teammates are yelling while you are swimming a race?
"I can usually hear people screaming, but can't always make out what their saying. But TJ's whistle is hard not to hear."

In case you are ever needed, how many flips can you do off the one-meter diving board?
"One..... I would be lucky if I got any more than that."

If you could add one thing to the sport of swimming what would it be?
"Extend the underwater rule to 20 meters instead of 15 meters."

What is your favorite pool work-out? Least favorite?
"Favorite: Sprint 25's or 50's since I don't' get to do them very often since I'm a distance swimmer. Least Favorite: Hypoxic sets...... I hate holding my breath for long periods of time."

Who was your favorite female swimmer to watch during last summer's Olympics?
"Dara Torres. Anyone who can compete in the Olympics at age 41 is something special in my book."

Do you think you will still swim for pleasure/exercise after your college career is done?
"Yeah, I'm sure I will. Definitely not as much as now, but I will probably join a masters team someday.

What is your favorite late-night snack?

If you had to sing karaoke, what song would you choose?
"My last song I sang was the Pussy Cat Dolls `Don't Ya,' but I'm still thinking about my next one."

Do you plan to wear a LZR suit at MWC Championships? Do you think it will help improve your times?
"Yes I do. I think the suit will help my performance physically but especially mentally. It's a newer suit with newer material and 24 world records were broken this past year wearing these suits so they must be doing something right."

What's one thing most people don't know about the sport of swimming
"It's probably one of the only sports that you're using all of your muscles for every stroke during a practice."
