Athlete of the Week

Lesley Young

What is the best Christmas present you have ever received?
"The presents I loved the most when I was younger were Legos and K'Nex. I would have all of them built by the end of Christmas Day."

What is the last song played on your iPod?
"Shark in the Water by VV Brown"

Do you have any pre-meet rituals?
"Not really...I usually take a nap and stretch really well on meet days."

If the Cowgirls could have a dance to do pre-meet (like the haka dance by the Cowboys) what would it be?
"Our team isn't really a rah-rah type of team. If we could do a dance it would probably be like the one in Mamma Mia when all the women are lined up on the boat dock dancing."

Which of your coaches do you think would be the easiest to beat in a race?
"Does Patrick (diving coach) count? I wouldn't want to race any of them because I would rather not see them in speedos... but if I had to pick one then maybe Manny."

Who is one Olympian you look up to, or who is your favorite Olympian?
"Natalie Coughlin. I remember watching her race at meets when I was younger and always looking up to her."

You are from California, what made you come to the University of Wyoming?
"The swim team. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have come to Laramie if I didn't love the team."

What is your favorite fast food restaurant in Calif., and in Laramie?
"I don't eat much fast food, and I would choose my mom's cooking over anything. But In-N-Out Burger is pretty satisfying if I want a cheeseburger at home, and I occasionally get a Frosty at the Wendy's here."

What are your three most visited websites?
"Facebook, WyoWeb, and YouTube"

If you could change one thing about the sport of swimming (add floaters, inner tubes, etc.,) what would it be?
"I would add shorter events like 25s and 50s of each stroke. They would be drop dead sprints and a lot of fun to compete in."

Have you ever challenged anyone to a race in the pool, just so you can beat them?
"I think I challenged my boyfriend last winter to a 25 of underwater fly kick. When he swam in junior college he was pretty good at underwater kicking, but it's been a few years since that."

Do you think you could swim across the English Channel?
"Sometimes I feel like I train to swim breaststroke across the English Channel, but there is no way that I could ever make it across."

Do you have a New Years resolution? If so what is it?
"I don't have one because I know I would never keep it."

If you could swim a different event what event would you choose?
"The 100 IM. I thought maybe the 50 free, but the 100 IM has always been my favorite event and it's only one lap of each stroke."

What is your favorite post-meet meal?
"My favorite post-meet meal is ice cream. It's not the best thing for you, but it's my favorite!"
