The University of Wyoming Diving team captured victories in all four events Friday evening at a three-school diving meet hosted by Trinity University in San Antonio at Hixon Natatorium which also included Texas Christian University.
Wyoming senior John Lynch who is a native of San Antonio, took first place honors in both the 1-meter and the 3-meter events finishing with a score of 287.75 in the 1-meter and 328.25 in the 3-meter. Fellow senior Kevin Bretting began the competition, but had to withdraw due to injury and sophomore Tyler Miller did not compete due to injury.
"This was a good trip for us and a good meet," UW diving coach Ben Herdt said. "We had some great individual performances despite being a little banged up and it was great to have a Wyoming athlete win every event."
The Cowgirl Divers also had a good night seizing the top five spots in the 3-meter and the top four spots in the 1-meter. Wyoming senior Saara Haapanen secured the top spot in the 1-meter with a score of 294.80 and second place in the 3-meter (258.20). Her 1-meter score puts her second all-time in Wyoming history. In the 3-meter, junior Brittany Wainwright secured the top spot with a score of 262.75 and fifth place in the 1-meter (238.35). Other Cowgirls to place were freshman Emily Huth who finished second in the 1-meter with a score of 263.70 and third place in the 3-meter with a score of 246.90 which was a personal best. Senior Emily Keefer finished fourth in both events with scores of 243.45 (1-meter) and 235.90 (3-meter). Freshman Stephanie Ortiz also placed well finishing third in the 1-meter (247.05) and sixth in the 3-meter (226.10).
"This meet, as well as our training over the holiday break, went extremely well and will really pay off as we begin the final push of our season," Herdt said.
The Wyoming Swimmers will begin competition tomorrow at the UC Irvine Invite which runs all day tomorrow and Sunday.
