PROVO, Utah -
Wyoming's swimming and diving teams completed a tough weekend on Saturday in Provo, Utah, losing a pair of road duals at BYU. The Cougars beat the Cowboys by a score of 142-97 and the Cowgirls fell by a score of 156-87.
With only their second loss of the season, the Cowgirls fall to 6-2 overall and 4-2 in the Mountain West Conference while the Cowboys fall to 2-4 overall and 0-4 in the MWC. The 24th ranked BYU men improve to 2-1 in the MWC while their women improve to 4-0.
"This was a tough day for our team," said UW head coach Tom Johnson. "The kids had some good performances but BYU is a solid team. This is a very tough place to win and unfortunately we came up on the short end of both dual meets."
The bright spot of the day for Wyoming came in the women's 1-meter diving competition. Senior Saara Haapanen claimed the only first place finish of the day for Wyoming as she turned in a score of 265.65. Junior Brittany Wainwright was close behind as she finished second with a score of 253.88.
The UW swimming and diving team will have a busy couple of days on the road next weekend as they compete at Colorado State and Air Force. The Cowgirls will dual with the Rams on Friday at 5 p.m. and both teams will compete at Air Force on Saturday at 1 p.m. The divers will spend the weekend in Colorado Springs, competing in the Air Force diving invite which will be held on Friday and Saturday.
