In their final dual meet of the1999-2000 season, the University of Wyoming men's and women's swimmingand diving teams defeated Metro State University at Denver, Colo. TheCowboys won 148-71, while the Cowgirls bounced back after an emotionalvictory over Colorado State Friday night, winning 158-61.
"We really swam some people in some off events in order to get readyfor the conference championships." UW head coach Tom Johnson said. "Forthe most part, the kids swam pretty well. The girls came out a littleflat, coming off yesterday's big win over CSU."
The women won every swimming event Saturday. Sophomore diver SadieWest (Sheridan, Wyo.) qualified for the NCAA Zone Championships in theone-meter. She joins teammates Wendy O'Connell and Dominy Alderman whoqualified Friday against CSU.
"It was a good confidence builder going into the conferencetournament." Johnson said.
With the victories, both teams end the season with only one loss. Themen finished the season with an overall record of 5-1, 2-1 inconference. The UW women finished the year with an overall record of7-1, 3-1 in conference.
Wyoming's divers will finish the season Feb. 4-5 at the Air ForceDiving Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo. The rest of the teamwill now concentrate on the Mountain West Conference Swimming and DivingChampionships which will be held in Oklahoma City, Okla., Feb. 16-19.
