The UW swimmers faced the University of Utah in Salt Lake City on Friday, Jan. 29, in a dual meet.
The Cowgirls were defeated Friday by Utah 150-110, while the men also lost to the Utes 157-100.
Winning their events for the women were Stephanie Fuller in the 1000 Free (11:00.66), Emily Hollon in the 200 Free (1:56.40), Natalie Koop in the 500 Free (5:18.52), and sophomore Elizabeth Nowak winning both the 200 Breaststroke (2:26.43) and the 200IM (2:13.05).
Senior Bethany Larsen placed second in the 50 and 100 Freestyle. Junior swimmer Jaime LaBrayere had one of her best meets this season placing second in the 200 Back (2:13.06) and third in the 100 Back (1:05.15). The Cowgirls struggled with the relay events versus Utah. They placed second("A") and fourth("B") in the 200 Free Relay, and the UW "A" team was disqualified in the 200 Medley Relay with the Wyoming "B" team placing fourth.
The Cowboys were led by sophomore Al Jarrell as he won all three events that he competed in. He won the 200 IM (1:56.87) with teammate Mickey Aberle finishing second (2:01.70), and Phil Rehard placing third (2:04.81). Jarrell also won the 100 Breaststroke (58.79) and the 200 Breastsrtoke with a time of 2:09.57.
Senior Kirk Hollingsworth finished second in the 200 Back (2:58.80), John Stone and Jacob Rehard were the only other swimmers for the Cowboys to finish in second place. Stone placed in the 200 Fly (1:59.30), while Rehrad placed in the 50 Free (21.51) and the 100 Fly (52.29).
The Cowboy relay teams proved to be a strong point in the meet against the Utes, as the Wyoming teams went one-two in the 200 Free Relay. In the 200 Relay Medley, the relay teams placed third and fifth.
