Storz Finishes Third in 500-Freestyle for Wyoming

After two days of competition in Oklahoma City, Okla., the swimming and diving teams still trail in the standings. The Cowboys are sitting in fifth place with 85 points, behind first place BYU with 219, while the Cowgirls are down in eighth place (69) with UNLV leading (219).

Damian Storz continued his success of the season as he finished in third place for the 500-freestyle (4:30.41), giving him his individual season high and the fourth best time in UW history. Teammate Ted Dibble completed the same event in twelfth place (4:37.91).

Grant Kritzinger performed well for the Cowboys as he finished the 200-individual medley in seventh place (1:53.20), with Jake Weidert following with a fourteenth place finish (1:56.28). Both times are individual season best times for the duo.

Swimming the 50-freestyle for the Cowboys were Jon George, Guy Fulfer and Morgan Wardell. They finished in thirteenth, fourteenth and sixteenth places, respectively.

Adam Miller finished the 3-meter diving event in eighth place with a season best score of 391.95.

On the Cowgirls side, Helja Vanhalla and Allison Schmid made vast improvements on their personal best times in the 500-freestyle. Vanhalla finished in 5:04.49, while Schmid finished in 5:05.40.

The women's 200-freestyle relay team finished in eighth place, just missing the UW record by eleven tenths of a second. Jody Riskowski, Missy Lewis, Katie Haywood and Lindsey Springer finished the event in 1:37.09.

Two Cowgirls finished in sixteenth place for the day. Mabry Fiddler competed in the 200-individual medley (2:11.16) and Lewis swam the 50-freestyle (24.72).

"We are looking forward to tomorrow's events," said UW head coach Tom Johnson. "We should have a good day."

The MWC tournament continues tomorrow, with the final day of competition being March 2.
