UW Divers Open NCAA Zone Diving Championship

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

The University of Wyoming divers opened competition at the NCAA Zone Diving Championship in Cadet Natatorium in Colorado Springs, Colo. on Monday. Four UW divers saw action on the day with the Cowgirls on the 3-meter springboard and the Cowboys on the 1-meter springboard.

"Today wasn't exactly what we were looking for, but there were some really good things that we can build on for the rest of the championship," UW diving coach Chelsea Popplewell said.

The Cowgirls were paced by junior Kari Campbell. She recorded a tally of 259.45 to finish 28th in the 55-diver field on the 3-meter springboard. She averaged a score of 43.24 points per dive on the day. Sophomore Keely Bishop placed 37th in the 3-meter event with a score of 241.50.

The Cowboys were led by sophomore Jacob Rehmeier, who finished 23rd in the 25-diver field. Freshman Austin Rettinghouse, who is appearing in his first Zone Championship finished 25th.

UW returns to the pool tomorrow with the Cowgirls on the 1-meter springboard and the Cowboys on the 3-meter springboard.
