AUSTIN, Texas -
The 2010 NCAA Zone "E' Championships came to an end today with both the University of Wyoming men and women competing on the platform event. Today three Wyoming divers advanced to the finals on the last day of diving.
Senior Emily Huth and junior Allie Smith made their way into the finals today for the Cowgirls. Huth dove her way to a 15th place finish in her last collegiate meet with a total of 181.50. Smith was not far behind her teammate and finished 16th with a score total of 173.50.
Mark Murdock represented the Cowboys in the finals on platform. After winning the Mountain West Conference Championship in the same event, Murdock ended his season with a solid ninth place finish with a score of 620.95. Sophomore Valentin Schwarz also dove platform today and came in 16th.
"It was good for Emily Huth and Allie Smith to finish the way they did today on platform. They both had very good seasons and dove well this weekend," said UW diving coach Kevin Bretting. "On the men's side, Mark had a chance to place higher but was against very tough competition. He is a strong competitor and he will continue to train and gain more experience. Overall I thought all the divers did very well this weekend and I am happy for all of them."
Two Cowgirls will continue their seasons as seniors Stephanie Ortiz and Cassie Stelow will compete at the 2010 NCAA Championships March 18-20 in West Lafayette, Ind. Ortiz qualified yesterday for the NCAA Championships with a third place finish on three-meter springboard at the Zone meet. Stelow will represent Wyoming in the pool and compete in the 50 freestyle after she won the MWC Championship in that event with a school and conference record setting time.
