Senior Derek Campbell qualified for his second finals of the NCAA Zone “E” Diving Championship to lead the University of Wyoming divers on Saturday in Cadet Natatorium in Colorado Springs, Colo. The final day of the competition featured the platform event.
“I couldn’t be happier for the kids, we battled some new dives and all in all we did a fantastic job,” Wyoming diving coach Yahya Radman said. “We were up against some of the most talented kids in the country and our kids have a ton of character and integrity.”
Derek Campbell, who competed in his final event as a Cowboy finished 11th in the platform dive with a tally of 549.43. His mark in the preliminaries of 289.38 was the third-best score on the platform in school history. Freshman Jacob Rehmeier finished the platform event in 21st place with a score of 192.78.
Sophomore Kari Campbell led the Cowgirl divers finishing 18th in the event just missing a spot in the finals with a tally of 222.95. Her mark is the fifth best in Cowgirl history, as she owns two of the top five all-time scores at UW. Senior Amanda Fay capped her UW career with a 23rd place finish with a score of 204.05. Freshman Keely Bishop did not compete in the event due to illness.
“I could not be happier with this graduating class. They stepped up and learned our system and competed at a very high level,” Radman stated.
The Cowgirls ended the season with two school records. The Cowboys wrapped up the season setting two top-five marks in the UW record book.
