The University of Wyoming swimming anddiving teams competed in the Brown vs. Gold intrasquad meet on Friday, tocomplete their pre-season meets. The Brown team beat the Gold team with ascore of 228-217.
The Brown team won 14 of the 22 events, and all of the diving events.Both senior, Oscar Delgado, and sophomore, Channing Kimball, ended with afirst place finish in both diving sessions.
Cowgirls Ashley Mallett (sophomore) and Mabry Fiddler (junior) won twoevents each on the women's side. Mallett finished in first place for the1000-freestyle (11:03.37) and the 200-butterfly (2:12.24). Fiddler endedwith the first place finish for 200-individual medley (2:15.70) and the500-freestyle (5:24.02).
Sophomore Katie Haywood and junior Lindsey Springer finished just 5one-hundredths apart from each other for the Cowgirls in the 100-freestyleevent, with Haywood getting the first place finish (:55.13).
"The racing today was unbelievable," UW head coach Tom Johnson said. "Ifeel very good about where we are. We have some areas that are a littlesoft, but the kids are training hard and I feel really good about theseresults right now."
Junior Damian Storz and senior Guy Fulfer were multi-event winners for theCowboys. Storz won the 1000-freestlye with a time of 10:34.79 and the500-freestyle (4:48.74). Fulfer's 1:46.56 time gave him the first placefinish for the 200-freestyle. He also took first place in the 100-freestylewith a 48:36 time.
"There were only 7 one-hundredths between Guy and Damian on the200-freestyle. It was good to see such good racing," said Johnson.
The regular season gets underway for the UW swimming and diving teams onOctober 19-20 in Fort Collins, Colo. at the Early Bird Invitational.
