Cowgirl Swimmers and Divers Fall Short Against New Mexico

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

Despite strong efforts from Wyoming juniorJody Riskowski, the Cowgirls swimming and diving team came up short onSaturday against the University of New Mexico. The final score for thewomen's dual was 116.5 to 126.5.

Riskowski ended with a first place finish in the 50-freestyle (24.83) andsecond in the 100-backstroke (1:00.69). In a tight race for the100-freestyle, sophomore Katie Haywood finished on top, beating out NewMexico swimmer, Myra Will (54.23 to 54.30, respectively) for her fastesttime of the season.

Junior Allison Schmid also swam well as she finished with her season hightime in the 200-freestyle (1:56.99) and placed third in the 100-freestyle(54.23). Another Cowgirl who ended with a first place finish was MissyLewis (junior) in the 100-breaststroke with a time of 1:06.36. She justbeat out her teammate, Crystal Mecham, who finished second with a 1:08.37time.

Mabry Fiddler (junior) concluded the day with two second place finishes,including the 500-freestyle (5:14.16) and the 200-individual medley(2:12.59).

The Cowgirl divers finished with the third, fourth and fifth spots for boththe 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions. Lauren Colaric finished inthird for both events.

The UW swimmers will be heading to Las Vegas, Nev. for a invitationalstarting on Nov. 29, while the divers will be in Provo, Utah for the BYUDiving Invite starting Nov. 30.
