Campbell Paces Divers on Opening Day of Texas Diving Invite

University of Wyoming junior diver Kari Campbell paced the UW divers on the opening day of the prestigious Texas Diving Invite in Austin, Texas on Thursday.

"Today went very well against some very good competition," UW diving coach Chelsea Popplewell said.

Campbell finished fifth in the 26-diver field on the 3-meter springboard with a tally of 300.05. Sophomore Jacob Rehmeier also qualified for the finals finishing eighth with a mark of 263.25.

"Jacob is really turning the corner and the second half of the season should be very exciting for him," Popplewell said. "Kari beat some very talented competitors today and it is great to see her go out and be a very consistent diver."

In the men's 1-meter springboard freshman Ryan Russi finished 10th with a score of 261.55. Fellow freshman Austin Rettinghouse finished 13th with a score of 233.55.

In the women's 3-meter springboard sophomore Keely Bishop placed 11th with a tally of 261.15. Senior Holly Heussner finished 21st with a mark of 212.25. Sophomore Lauren Puglisi rounded out the Cowgirls with a score of 182.

The Texas Diving Invite continues tomorrow with the women's 1-meter springboard and the men's 3-meter springboard.
