Cowgirl Swimming And Diving Falls To San Diego State In MWC Dual

Laramie, Wyo. - The University ofWyoming Cowgirl Swimming and Diving team lost to San DiegoState University , 126-174, in a MWC dual, Saturdayafternoon in San Diego. The Cowgirls MWC dual record fallsto 1-1 and their overall record to 2-2.

The Cowgirls won four events on the day including the 200medley relay. In that event, Katie Haywood, AlexLeziy-Miller, Heidi Thorson and Katie Bigger swam a firstplace time of 1:50.98.

Individually, the Cowgirls were once again led by freshmandiver Saara Haapanen who won both boards of diving on theday. Her score of 226.00 on the 1-meter and 224.05 on the3-meter were each best scores of the dual. Freshman LaurenBeard was the only other event winner on the day, winningthe 200 IM in a time of 2:11.34.

"I thought we swam hard, we just weren't able to comeaway with the win," said UW assistant swimming and divingcoach Jane Bartee. "Saara had a great day of diving,Lauren swam a tough 200 IM and I was really pleased with the200 medley relay."

The Cowgirls will return to action in two weeks as theytravel to the US Open in Seattle, Wash. and the diverstravel to Ypsilanti, Mich. for the Eastern Michigan DivingInvite. The US Open will run from Dec. 4-6 and the divinginvite Dec. 5-6.
