LARAMIE, Wyo. -
For the first time this season, the Wyoming diving team competed in platform diving as they completed competition at the 2007 Texas Invite in Austin, Texas on Saturday.
Senior Brittany Wainwright led the way for the Cowgirls with a 14th place score of 177.05. Sophomore Emily Huth finished just behind her with a 16th place score of 167.85. Freshman Allie Smith placed 21st with a score of 139.25.
"This was a positive trip with a lot of great learning experiences," said UW diving coach Ben Herdt. "Kyle dove really well today and I am very proud of him. To finish this well in his first college platform experience is a very positive thing. Our women had a good effort while diving against kids who train platform all year long. Brittany had a nice day and led the way and Emily was right behind her. I was really happy with the way Allie Smith dove considering this was her first college platform experience and she just learned her list for today this morning."
Texas' Matt Cooper won the men's event with a score of 374.95. Stanford's Brent Eichenseer placed second with a score of 314.45 and TCU's RJ Hesselberg placed third with a score of 292.50.
Stanford swept the top-two spots in the women's event. Meg Hostage won the event with a score of 261.75, Shana Karp placed second with a score of 229.55. Tennessee's Vicky Linnell rounded out the top-three with a score of 226.55.
The Cowgirl divers will return to action one more time this semester as they join the swimmers at home to dual with San Diego State next Saturday. The dual will be held at Corbett Poll and begin at 12 p.m.
