LARAMIE, Wyo. - The University of Wyomingmen's and women's diving teams concluded competition at the 2004Texas Invite, Saturday afternoon in Austin, Texas.
All three Cowboy divers finished in the top-10 of all three boardswith sophomore John Lynch leading the charge in all three events. Hefinished fourth in the 1-meter, sixth in the 3-meter and fourth in theplatform event.
Thursday, Lynch finished fourth in the finals of the 1-meter event(278.65) while senior Adam Miller finished fifth (273.55) andsophomore Kevin Bretting finished eighth (251.45). In Friday's3-meter competition, both Lynch and Miller qualified for the finalswhere Lynch placed sixth (457.90) and Miller placed seventh (444.10).Bretting dove to the 10th best preliminary score of 366.75, justmissing the finals. In Saturday's platform action, Lynch finishedfourth (380.35), Bretting finished sixth (338.10) and Miller finishedseventh (336.85).
The Cowgirls also had a very strong weekend with sophomore EmilyKeefer leading the Cowgirls in two of three events on the weekend. InThursday's 3-meter competition, Keefer finished 11th in the semifinals (4:13.80) and fellow sophomore Saara Haapanen finished 15th(397.65). Freshman Brittany Wainwright finished 21st in thepreliminaries with a score of 212.90. Friday, Keefer finished 14th inthe preliminaries of the 1-meter board (221.05), Haapanen finished16th (216.10) and Wainwright finished 23rd (199.35). Saturday,Haapanen dove to a 12th place score of 287.10 in the platform eventwhile Keefer finished 14th (284.75) and Wainwright finished 18th(256.20).
The Wyoming divers will return to action two weekends from now asthey join the swimmers to travel to Las Vegas, Nev. for the UNLVWinter Invite. The Invite will run from Sat., Dec. 18 through Mon.,Dec. 20.
