University of Wyoming freshman TaraWalker, from Green River, Wyo., qualified for the NCAA Zone DivingChampionships when she posted a score of 255.45 in the 1-meter diving eventon Friday, Jan. 22 versus the University of Denver. Walker's score earnedher first place in the dual meet, and qualified her for the NCAA ZoneCompetition in Tempe, Ariz., March 12-13, 1999.
Walker joins fellow UW divers Wendy O'Connell and Oscar Delgado, whoboth qualified for the NCAA Zone competition earlier this season. O'Connellis a sophomore, who hails from Evanston, Wyo. She transferred to Wyomingfrom the Air Force Academy. Delgado is a freshman from Covina, Calif.
By posting an NCAA qualifying score in any one of three eventsduring the season, a diver is eligible to compete in all three events at theNCAA Zone Diving Championships. The three diving events that are contestedat the NCAA Zone Championships are the 1-meter, 3-meter and Platform events.
Divers at the NCAA Zone Championships then compete to advance to theNCAA Championships. The NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships willbe held March 18-20, 1999, at the University of Georgia. The NCAA Men'sSwimming and Diving Championships will be held on March 25-27, 1999, inIndianapolis, Ind.
