Wyoming Sweeps MWC Men's Athlete of the Week Honors

LARAMIE, Wyo. - The Cowboy swimming and diving team swept the Mountain West Conference's Athlete of the Week awards on Wednesday as Sam King was named the Swimmer of the Week and Mark Murdock was honored as the Diver of the Week.

King, a senior from Missoula, Mont., won three individual events and contributed to a relay victory as Wyoming split conference meets with Utah (Won 174-121) and BYU (Lost 99-144) last weekend in Laramie, Wyo. Against Utah, King won the 200 backstroke (1:53.86) and 200 individual medley (1:55.56), while leading off the first-place 400 medley relay team that finished in a time of 3:27.18. King also swam to a second-place time of 52.94 in the 100 backstroke against the Utes. Against 23rd-ranked BYU, King won the 400 individual medley, touching the wall in 4:05.72.

Murdock, a freshman from Flower Mound, Texas, earned his second straight weekly honor after winning all four diving events vs. Utah and BYU last weekend. Against Utah he set personal-best marks in the one-meter (320.55) and the three-meter (338.10) events. Both point totals rank fifth all-time in Wyoming diving history and are also NCAA Zone Qualifications. Murdock's one-meter mark is the best in the MWC this season, while his three-meter point total ranks second in the league. Against BYU, he won the one-meter with a score of 299.40 and the three-meter with a point sum of 294.23. Murdock has won six consecutive diving events dating back to UW's dual meet with UNLV on Jan. 18 and has not lost an event in 2008.
