University of Wyoming head swimmingcoach Tom Johnson announced today the signing of Mabry Fiddler to aletter of intent to attend the University of Wyoming in Fall of 2000.
Fiddler, from Birmingham, Ala., is transferring from Auburn Universitywhere she helped the Tigers to a fifth-place finish at the 2000 NCAAWomen's Swimming and Diving Championships. She also placed 12th inboth the 400 IM and 200 butterfly at the 2000 Southeastern ConferenceChampionships. Her time in the 400 IM would have won the same event atthe Mountain West Conference Championships. She currently has SeniorNational qualifying times in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and the 200and 400 individual medleys. Fiddler attended USA Swimming NationalSelect Camp in 1996, and was named Southeastern Swimming's Swimmer ofthe Year in 1996. In that same year, she was a Junior NationalChampion, and is the current Junior National meet record-holder in the100 and 200 meter breaststroke. She was runner-up in the 400 IM and afinalist in the 100 breast and 200 IM at the 1998 National JuniorChampionships. Head swimming and diving coach Tom Johnson coachedFiddler in high school while he was head coach and program director forthe Birmingham Swim League.
"Mabry will make an instant impact in our program." said Johnson. "Shehas the potential to win three events at conference next year and willmake a significant impact on our relay teams. I have known Mabry andcoached her since she was 13 years-old, she is a very gifted andtalented athlete and has a tremendous work ethic. She is very versatileand has tremendous range."
