For the first time in his career Jon McNeeley, a junior on the University of Wyoming Men's Swimming and Diving Team, was selected on Thursday to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District VII Men's At Large Second Team. McNeeley, who has earned a 3.92 cumulative grade-point average in history, was one of 21 individuals to earn First or Second Team honors.
The Verizon Academic All-District and Academic All-America Teams are sponsored by Verizon Wireless. Student-athletes are selected in voting by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). CoSIDA District VII is made up of the states of Wyoming, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota and the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan.
To qualify, a student-athlete must have achieved a minimum of 3.20 cumulative grade-point average, must be at least a sophomore and must have participated in at least 50 percent of his team's games.
McNeeley was also an Academic All-Conference and Scholar-Athlete selection in 2001. This past season at the 2003 Mountain West Conference Championships, McNeeley finished seventh in the 400 IM, tenth in the 200 breaststroke and 11th in the 100 breaststroke. The Cowboys finished the season with a 7-4 dual mark and 2-2 in the Mountain West Conference.
