Jon McNeely, a senior on the University of Wyoming Men's Swimming Team, was selected on Thursday to the 2004 Academic All-District VII Men's At Large First Team. McNeely, who has earned a 3.793 cumulative grade-point average in history, was one of 10 individuals to earn First Team honors.
Out of 37 total athletes nominated in seven sports by 19 different schools, 10 student-athletes were selected for the CoSIDA Academic All-District VII Men's At-Large squad. Those 10 student-athletes selected will now move on to the national ballot in consideration for the honor of Academic All-America.
The Academic All-District and Academic All-America Teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). CoSIDA District VII is made up of the states of Wyoming, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota and the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan.
To qualify, a student-athlete must have achieved a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade-point average, must be at least a sophomore and must have participated in at least 50 percent of his team's games.
McNeely was an Academic All-District VII Second Team Selection in 2003. This past season, McNeely was named to the Mountain West Conference Second Team after placing fifth in the 200 breaststroke at the 2004 MWC Championships. He also placed sixth in the 400 IM and 16th in the 200 IM at the championships. He is a three-time MWC Scholar Athlete and Academic All-MWC selection.
